Joan G. Coleman passed away on April 5, 2018 at the age of 86 in San Antonio, TX. She was born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland to Edward William and Helen Marie Whelan. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister: Marie Scully. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years: James T. Coleman; brother: Edward Whelan (Ruby); children: Dan Coleman (Kelli), Toni Altum (Johnny); grandchildren: Brittney, Kent and Grace; two great-granddaughters: Emma and Ella; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was a devoted wife, mother and for 22 years she was a Kindergarten teacher at St. Pius X Catholic Church. During that time she dedicated herself to laying the educational foundation for her numerous students who benefited from her love of learning, her drive for excellence and her devotion to the catholic faith. She was truly an inspiration to the many individuals that she touched throughout her life.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 6pm-9pm with a rosary beginning at 7pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:30am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3907 Harry Wurzbach Rd, with interment to follow at a later date.
