

Joan Hernandez, well-respected, remarkable, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2017 at the age of 72. She was born on February 21, 1945 in Lemesa, Texas to parents Rufus and Birdie Holt, and later resided in San Antonio, Texas.
In 1962, she married the love of her life and best friend, Samuel Hernandez. Together they enjoyed fifty-five (55) wonderful years of marriage. In 1995, they very proudly started a family owned business, School Shoes Unlimited supplying uniform school shoes to students of private schools in San Antonio and surrounding areas.
A consummate wife, mother and grandmother, she adored her family. Best known by her grandchildren as "Nana". She always found time to share special moments and attend events for each of her precious twelve (12) grandchildren and four (4) great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to call and send cards on special occasions to her family. She was a great listener and had a gentle way of providing guidance and support to those who needed her. She was an avid reader and had a library of over a thousand books. The love she poured into our family will be carried on for many generations. She had an unwavering faith in God. She and her husband were members of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church for over forty (40) years.
Joan is preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Shaw. She is survived by her devoted husband, Samuel Hernandez, children: Debbie (Michael) Murphy, Michele Mangum and Joey (Yamy) Hernandez. grandchildren: Lauren, Danielle, Taylor, Travis, Haley, Tristan, Matthew, Michael, Payton, Rylan, Elizabeth, Holdan. Great Grandchildren: David, Jacob, Millena and Ryan-Blake. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law and best friend, Jackie Holt and many loving nieces and nephews; amongst other esteemed family and friends.
