Joan Kathleen O'Connor

Joan Kathleen OConnor, age 90, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Rexford T. OConnor of 68 years. Children William OConnor, Kathleen OConnor, Kevin OConnor, Michael OConnor and Mary Rice. Joan has many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ruth McNerney; sons, Thomas OConnor and Timothy OConnor; siblings, Thomas, Jeanne, Janet, and Donny.

Joan grew up in Toledo Ohio. She put 100% of herself into everything she did in life, including St. Ursula Academy High School and Mercy Nursing School where she received her RN as a nurse. She was very happily married to Rex, an Air Force Pilot. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother to her 7 children and 26 grandchildren. She and Rex successfully ran their hobby business, Hobby Center, for 34 years and ended their career in 2008 with retirement.

She graced all of us with her love and devotion to her family and friends. Joan was a devoted Catholic and will be sorely missed by everyone she came in touch with during her 90 years with us.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 pm with a Rosary at 5:30 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am with a visitation beginning at 10:30 am on Friday, December 31, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi in San Antonio, Texas. Interment will take place at 1:00 pm on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
