Ms. Pytel was my first principal at Kelly. The school was a success due to her leadership. We all had the utmost respect for her as she was fair, kind, strict and held us all to her high standards! I kept up with her, at Christmas, through the years. I will really miss her as she always took time for everyone and was a most special lady...one of a kind. Our prayers to the family for the loss of such an exceptional woman.

Miss Pytel was the principal when I attended Kelly Elem. She had a strong distinguished voice that you wanted to follow her directions the first time. I remember she was so tall and was always so beautifully dressed in her suits. I always looked forward to seeing what color she was wearing for the day. She always had nice things to say when the different classes presented the Christmas programs. I pray that the beautiful memories you have of Joan will give you comfort and asking God to give you the peace that only he can give. God Bless your family.

I remember Miss. Pytel as Kelly Elem principal

Miss Pytel was my school principal in 1968. My dad had just retired from the USAF and we moved back to San Antonio. My mother was so happy because she ad grown up with her and attended St. Henry's Catholic church. Mother knew we were in great hands with her. I remember as if it were yesterday...that tall slender woman in beautiful suits And dresses, that laugh and smiles. She knew each one of us and made each one of us feel special. She knew our parents and our siblings. What a bright shining light in our childhood. As we grew older, and would run into her here and there she would ask what we'd been doing with our lives and what our dreams were. She would encourage us to move forward. I know she was proud of all of us. I'm glad she saw many of us grow into some of San Antonio's finest community members. Your "dash" in life was and awesome one. Filled with love, laughter and a few tears. Thank you Miss Joan Pytel for your unconditional love and support through the years. And yes, I will light a candle for your memory from time to time. Until we meet again. Pray for us and we for you.

My most sincere condolences to the Pytel family. I had the pleasure of working with Joan when I was a chairperson for the Archbishop's Appeal at my parish. She was a caring and very personable lady that really loved her job and the people she met while doing that job. May she rest in peace.

Ms. Pytel was my principal at Kelly Elementary. In fact, she was principal to most of my older siblings as well. 
I remember that she stood tall in more ways than one. In her dress, posture, and demeanor, she exuded confidence and authority. What a wonderful example of a female role model she was back in the seventies. 
She appointed me as the attendance monitor and my job was to pick up all the absence notices from the teachers in the whole school. I remember how important she made me feel. She always made everyone feel as if they should strive to be better. She was proud of our school, teachers, and students and that pride spilled out onto everyone else.
I ran into her at the Archdiocese in 2001 and was amazed to see that she remembered me. I was astonished at her memory of my siblings, friends, teachers, and other students.
She will forever be an inspiration and remain in the hearts and minds of all of her students.
Eternal rest grant unto her oh, Lord and may Your perpetual light shine upon her.

My condolences to the Pytel family. I was a student at Kelly back in 74 and I have fond memories of Mrs. Pytel greeting all the students at the entrance of the school everyday. She was an inspiration and was a dedicated principal to the students. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

You will be missed. You brought great joy to your volunteer work at the hospital and much energy and devotion to your work at the Archdiocese, where I met you. I can just imagine all of the children and staff you inspired when you were working in the San Antonio schools. You were a great, Texas lady.

I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Joan. I met her the last few years at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital where she volunteered. We have missed her smiling face the last two years. My prayers are with her. I'm sorry I will be unable to be with you, but I need to attend another funeral.

We will miss you, Joanie. You were the best - always upbeat, always caring for others. And that little poodle of yours, Evette, stays with us as a memory of you.

Miss Pytel was my third grade teacher in 1956 at Graebner. To this day I've always remembered her warmth, kindness and beauty. I'm sure she is remembered by countless of students. She was one of God's best.

I'm so sorry to see her go. She was a wonderful gal and I always enjoyed her company.

Ms. Pytel was my principal at Kelly elementary from first through fifth grade. If there was a better lady in that school, I did not know one. She was very kind and always ready for a strong embrace, gentle, but fair. Halloween was a great time at Kelly because it coincided with her birthday and she made sure the school was set for the occasion. What an awesome time for a kid. The Brady Courts, Kelly Homes and Palm Heights community is a much better place today because of her. God Bless You Ms. Pytel.

I will always remember the times we shared together, starting back at Kelly Elementary School. Our paths crossed again and I am very thankful to God for bringing us together again. I enjoyed calling you on your B-day and also wishing you a Happy Halloween. I loved spending every minute with you when I was able to visit you at your retirement communities. My favorite time is when I helped feed you. It hurts to see you go, but God has his own plan for you now. We will meet again soon. Say "HI" to mom for me. She also loved you very much. Auntie Joan, as we called her, was a very dear and special lady. My Mother, Ina Greenhill, had the privilege of working with her. My son was introduced to her at mere months old and she always remembered him and would ask about him. She will be dearly missed by our family. But she is singing with the angels now.

Good bye, kind, wise Cousin Joan Pytel...Tootsie, Cheerleader for the family, always the sweetest, most positive of all of us. So active, so sincerely effervescent, so supportive. Never a bad word to say about anyone, not even about the bad ones. Generous, lovely, selfless, traditional, Godly. One of our Old Trees. And now you're gone. I'll miss you. You were one of the best of us. I will strive to live up to what you thought I am. It's not always easy to be that way but I'll get better at it, with the memory of your strength and under the guidance of your powerful but soothing shadow.
