

Joan Marie Ingram Veasey was born in Byhalia, Mississippi on October 28, 1936. She was the daughter of John and Bessie Ingram. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Ingram, along with all of her eleven siblings.
Joan attended Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, where she studied mathematics, and played varsity basketball. It was at Rust College that Joan met the love of her life, Columbus Veasey, Jr. in January of 1954. They married on March 31, 1956 in Hernando, MS. The rest, as they say, is history. They remained married for sixty-five years, before the passing of Columbus in 2021.
Joan was a lifelong educator and taught elementary school throughout the years as she accompanied her beloved husband, Dr. Columbus Veasey, Jr., during his twenty years of service in the Air Force. After Dr. Veasey’s retirement from the Air Force, they chose Denver, Colorado as their new home, where they would spend the bulk of the rest of their lives. She received her master’s degree in education from the University of Colorado in 1979. Joan enjoyed teaching, and after moving to Denver, taught most of her years at Knight Academy. Joan was a life-long member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Denver, Colorado, where she enjoyed serving the community side by side with her sorority sisters.
Joan was known for her dedication to education, her strong work ethic, devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren, her good home-cooking, sense of humor, and cheering on her Denver Broncos. She is survived by her son, Byron Veasey (Karen), daughter, Janet Fleurant (Hervé), her four grandchildren, Daniel, Sahai, David (Halle), and Sierra Fleurant, and two great-grandchildren, Micah and Kingston Fleurant, her nephew, Carl Deberry (Shirley), and many other beloved nieces and nephews. Joan will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style, devotion to family and dear friends, and love for life.
