Joe, born and raised in the Alamo City, treasured his family. He loved his wife’s delicious home-cooked dishes and if you knew him, you would attest to how much he enjoyed drinking coffee and eating empanadas. Some of his favorite pastimes included resting in his recliner while watching classic Western movies and vintage sitcoms. But, most of all, he was extremely proud of his children and always encouraged them to further their education. He dedicated his life to serving in the church community. Joe possessed many skills like making home repairs and renovations or fixing the family vehicles when needed.
Joe also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from McKesson as an accountant, after 30 years of service. He was a notary for several years, as well.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, José and Cesaría Almaraz; wife, Janie B. Almaraz; sisters, Alvina Flores, Josie Cortez, Janie Reyes, Mary Solis, and granddaughter, Janell Saenz. Joe is survived by his five children: Joe Almaraz, Jr. and wife Nancy; Jesse Almaraz; Jeanette Saenz and husband Hector; Julie Wiley and husband Jim; Johnny Almaraz and wife Tonya; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sister, Henrietta Vargas.
Joe, a born-again Christian looked forward to his heavenly home, as well as being reunited with his beautiful wife, Janie, of 64 years.
