A man of quiet strength, deep generosity, and unwavering love for his family, Joe Cardenas Cantu entered into his eternal rest on with the Lord on July 26, 2025 at the age of 89. Joe was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 14, 1936 to parents, Isidora Cardenas and Jose Cantu.
Joe lived a life centered around family, hard work, and an unshakable desire to help others. He believed in putting his loved ones first—always showing up, always giving, and always making sure those around him were cared for. His proudest moments were the births of his children, and his greatest joy was watching his family grow, especially when it came to his grandchildren. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
Joe had a brilliant, curious mind and an unmatched work ethic. He served as a radar repairman and later became a skilled computer engineer, working with fiber optics and mastering complex technology with ease. His love for tinkering never faded—he was always fixing things around the house, not just out of necessity, but because he truly enjoyed understanding how things worked. If something was broken, Joe would find a way to fix it. If someone needed help, he would be the first to lend a hand. His intelligence was matched only by his humility. Whether working with intricate electronics or simply changing a lightbulb for a neighbor, Joe approached every task with patience, care, and quiet pride.
Joe will be reunited in heaven with his parents; Isidora “Dora” and Jose Cantu; children, Joe Cantu Jr. and Susie Cantu; grandson, Orlando Huerta Jr.; and siblings, Mariana Cardenas and Raul Cantu.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication—that will forever live in his daughters; Sylvia McCoy and Sandra Huerta (Orlando). Grandchildren; Dolores Charles (Nicholas); Gina McDonald (Bradley), Angela Townsend (Jeffrey), and Kathy Huerta; great-grandchildren; Evan, Edmond, Emmett, Ethan, David, James, Lilly, Evelyn, Emily, Ellie, Edith, Elaine; siblings, Jessie Cantu and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Joe will be remembered not just for what he did, but for how he made people feel—safe, supported, and loved without condition.
A visitation for Joe will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237.
