Joe Phillip Garza, 49, on May 14, 2023, unexpectedly passed away in a sudden and tragic accident. Joe, also known affectionately as “Joey” and “Joe-Joe”, is survived by his son, Julian Alexander Garza; his mother Ellen G. Garza; his sister Herminia “Minnie” Garza-Jaber and husband Ismail “Jabe”; his brother Mark Anthony Garza, wife Jacqueline N. Garza and their children Emma, Olivia and William Garza. Joe was predeceased by his beloved father Joe De La Garza Garza.
Joe was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended St. Cecilia’s Catholic School, graduated from St. Gerard Catholic High School and completed coursework at St Phillips’ College. For the past 30 years he owned and operated the Garza family business, South Texas Cemetery Services, LLC. He was committed to preserving the legacy established by his grandfather and father. His compassion, sensitivity and attention to details gained him trust, love and respect of all the surrounding funeral homes, cemeteries in San Antonio and surrounding areas. He was most honored to provide services to the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Although, he would humbly disagree, he was a leader in his field.
Joey loved the outdoors, skydiving, Country music, his rescued Pit Bulls “Cookie” and “Allie”, his family and countless friends. He also had an intense obsession for his Blue 1980 Chevy Stepside, which he constantly fussed over. He loved racing it and working on it with his friends, creating lasting memories. But above all he was most passionate about his son. He was loving and dedicated to the joy of his life, Julian. Julian and his father enjoyed so many outings: biking, jet skiing, grilling, fishing, and visiting his grandparents. He was a fun-loving jokester and prankster and so full of life.
Funeral Services will include a Rosary and Visitation at Porter Loring on McCullough, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral mass will be held at The Chapel of the Incarnate Word May 24, 2023, at 11 a.m.
In keeping with Joe’s love of his dogs and in the memory of his late father, the Garza family would appreciate donations in Joe’s honor to either Alamo City Pit Bull Rescue and Rehabilitation or the Alzheimer’s Association, in lieu of flowers.
