

Joe lived a long, full, and meaningful life rooted in love, faith, and connection with others. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, Joe built a strong work ethic that carried him through many years of dedicated service with VIA Metropolitan Transit. He later continued his career with Greyline as a tour guide, a role he truly enjoyed, as it allowed him to meet people from all walks of life while sharing his knowledge, humor, and gift for storytelling.
At the heart of Joe’s life was his deep love for music. He found great joy in playing the guitar and had a special passion for Mariachi music, which brought him closer to his culture and created lasting memories with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling to Kickapoo, where he spent many happy moments filled with laughter, companionship, and entertainment. Joe had a natural ability to bring people together, and his warm personality made him a joy to be around.
Joe was a devoted husband and cherished the 47 years he shared with his beloved wife, Leticia M. Gonzales. Their life together was filled with love, partnership, and countless memories that will forever be treasured. He was also a loving family man who valued time spent with those closest to him and took great pride in maintaining strong family bonds.
J.R's memory will forever live in the hearts of his beloved wife of 47 years, Leticia M. Gonzales; his loving family, including his brothers-in-law Frank Medina, Felix Medina (Sylvia), and Anthony Medina (Stella); his sisters-in-law Mary Jane Verde (Julian), Jessica Contreras (Louie), and Rosemary Garza (Michael); his dear friend Javier Padilla, whom he loved as family; nine beloved godchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
J.R. is reunited in heaven with his son, Richard O. Gonzales; his sister, Antonietta Mendoza; his brother, Henry Gonzales; and his parents, Margarito and Carlota Gonzales.
He will be remembered for his warm spirit, his love of music and storytelling, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will be forever cherished.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237,on April 23, 2026, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.
A Processional will depart from the Funeral Home for A Mass of the Resurrection that will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, 1321 El Paso St, San Antonio, TX 78207, on April 23, 2026, at 10:00 am.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, at 11:30 am.
