

At age 18, Joe proudly enlisted in the US Army (1949) and served in the 51st Infantry Division. He courageously fought and was wounded in combat during the Korean conflict in an enemy ambush. Joe was honorably discharged in 1952 and is the prominent recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He was a loyal member of the VFW and the Purple Heart Association, and was very proud of his war decorations as well as his military service to his country.
He later married Irene Duque de Estrada on February 5, 1960; a wonderful marriage of 56 years.
He was an employee with Scobey Moving and Storage. In 1993, after years of dedicated service, he retired from Brooks Air Force Base. Affectionately known as "Joe", he loved watching basketball and football games; spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of his passions was gambling, loved travelling to Las Vegas and most recently enjoyed trips to Louisiana and Eagle Pass.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Diana G. Cabrera; brothers and sisters: Guadalupe Gutierrez, Manuela Verastegui, Rudy Guerrero and Isabel Schroeder.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene Guerrero; their children: Velma Santoyo, Mary Jo Perez (Ruben), Delia Villegas (Caesar) and David Guerrero; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother and sisters: Dolores Martinez, Gregory Guerrero and Mary Louise Garcia, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 23rd, beginning at 5:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough.
