Joe H. Huizar

At the age of 95, Dad was a man whose hands were rarely idle. Born into a family that weathered the scarcity of the Great Depression, his story is one of resilience, hard work and deep-seated faith. From his early days as an altar boy, delivery boy and a handyman skilled in welding, automotive, construction and carpentry. His career spanned over 40 years of delivering milk for Oak Farms and all its predecessors.

Dad was the second of four children, an older sister, Estela, and a younger brother and sister, Jesse and Ofelia. Times were tough in the 1930s due to the depression. He made it through 12th grade but quit when he was offered a job.

In 1953, he married Susie Rivera, a neighborhood young lady. They had known each other for years since they lived in proximity. The following year they were blessed with their only daughter, Rose Marie, and soon three sons followed: Joseph, David, and Richard. Their family of four children arrived within five years.

When Dad worked at the local dairy, he started his day at 3:30 a.m. with his devoted Susie in the kitchen preparing his breakfast: fresh flour tortillas, chorizo, eggs, etc. He retired in 1993 but continued to eat breakfast at daybreak.

Joe and Susie encouraged and inspired their children to stay in school, participate in sports and learn as much as possible. As a caring father he wanted them to succeed. His proudest moment was when they all graduated from college.

He cared for Susie when she got dementia and learned to live alone these last five years.

FAMILY

Dad was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Rivera Huizar; parents, Joe and Maria Huizar; brother, Jesse Huizar, and sister, Estela Huizar.

Dad is survived by his sister, Ofelia Huizar; daughter, Rose M. Sambrano and her husband, Michael; his sons: Joseph H. Huizar and his wife, Sylvia; David A. Huizar; and Richard T. Huizar and his wife, Marianne. Grandchildren: David M. Huizar; Jennifer Rodriguez and her husband, Josh; Lawrence J. Huizar and his wife, Marie; Stephanie Garcia and her husband, Chris; Erika J. Arrieta and her husband, Cruz; Samantha M. Huizar and her husband, Todd Maggard; Timothy R. Huizar and his wife, Carol; Naomi Huizar; and Richard J. Huizar and his wife, Alyssa; 15 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild, with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

SERVICES

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78212, followed by a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00 am at St Ann's Catholic Church, 210 St Ann St, San Antonio, Texas 78201.

The interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78237.
