Joe P. Montez

Joe proudly served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged from the US Army. As these brave troops stormed the battlefield in Normandy, Joe proudly walked in line with General George Patton.

After discharge from the Army, he was a loyal employee as a jet engine mechanic and retired after his dedicated service from Kelly Air Force Base.

He loved animals, had a passion for fishing and cooking ~ we all could hardly wait to taste his delicious BBQ. He loved the mechanics of tractors, of which he had many and had fruit trees on his property ~ peach, plum, orange and pear trees spanned the country side.

Many memorable days were spent with making time for his children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his bigger than life personality and for helping others.

Joe loved the feel of woodworking ~ he made many wooden crosses for family and friends. We knew his final touches always included a flicker of glitter as his personal signature on each one.

His favorite television program was Wheel of Fortune and played along as if he was the contestant ~ and, sometimes he won!

Joe knew what he wanted and throughout his life, he made it happen to ensure a better life for his family. He was a person who visualized and actualized the American dream.

He made a lasting impact on his family and on the people who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Trinidad S. Montez and their son, Joe Montez III.

Joe is survived by his children: Guadalupe Espinoza, Mary Ames, JoAnn Montez Diaz and husband, Felix; Raul J. Montez and wife, Yolanda; Robert Montez and wife, Becky; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; along with his brother, Raymond Montez and wife, Mary.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, September 23rd at Porter Loring on McCullough.
