

Joe D. Reyes, age 67 passed away on March 28, 2023 in San Antonio, TX. Born on September 6, 1955, in San Antonio, to parents, Joe F. Reyes and Oralia (Davila) Reyes. One of seven siblings, Joe was a one of a kind character, full of wit and humor and with a giant generous heart.
Joe was a proud graduate from South San High School in 1974. He was always surrouned by his brothers and sisters and many friends. Joe started his carreer working for Lone Star Brewery while he earned his Bachelors degree at the University of Texas San Antonio. He served as the head football coach at Terrell Wells and Kazen Middle Schools. He continued his education at Texas A & I University earning his Masters in Educational Administration. He moved to many cities in Texas, serving first as the Assistant Principal at Bastrop Middle School; then as Principal at Lockhart High School, Port Isabel High School, Veterans Memorial in Mission Texas, A.C Jones in Beeville, Cotulla High School, Cotulla, Texas. He considered his nomination for the HEB’s Excellence in Education Award as a highlight of his career. His lengthy career impacted so many students; his positivity motivated students to achieve success.
Joe loved listening to his favorite music while he nurtured and cared for his plants. He spent many hours listening to his “honky-tonk”, ‘tejano” and his classic rock music. He loved traveling, especially to Colorado. The Reyes’ family vacations were filled with adventures and special memories made with his son, Clay, Joe’s siblings, and his nieces and nephews.
One of Joe’s other passions was football. He was a diehard Packers fan and was always an enthusiastic and vocal supporter. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to different cities to watch their favorite teams as well as enjoy the historic stadiums. Sports was a big part of Joe’s life, whether it was watching his son play golf or enjoying the Triple Crown horse races, you could always count on his expertise in the art of coaching.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, Joe and Oralia Reyes as well as is brothers Frank and Edward and his sister Martha and his brother in law Carmelo Jimenez. Joe is survived by his wife, Sandra Rosales; his son Clayton (partner Mayra Ruiz) Clayton’s mother, Sylvia Reyes, his sister Bertha Jimenez, and his brothers George and Richard Reyes (wife Barbara Acevedo), stepchildren Elliot Rosales (wife, Julanne Wilson) Lauren Adan (husband,Evaristo Adan), his nieces, Sabrina and Oriana, nephews Roman, Matthew, and Preston Reyes. He leaves behind many lifelong friends, colleagues, and former students.
