'We were so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Our son Karl Culp was with Joe in 1969 in Vietnam. They were on a mission and someone stepped on a trip line.
Karl and Joe were the best of friends. They like to tease each other and laughed a lot.
Joe stayed in contact with us by phone and e-mail. We met Joe and his mother in San Antonio for dinner a couple of times. We enjoyed learning somethings of Joe's early life as told by his mother.
We have had several Marine reunions and Joe enjoyed being with his buddies and exchanging stories of their experiences.
He was a brave Marine and a good person. Bless him, he will not be forgotten.'

'I met Joe for the first time during a reunion of his Recon Marine Company a couple of years ago. He was very special to this family of veterans and the family of Karl Culp.
