

Joe Charles Rodriguez was born in San Antonio, TX to Joe Robert Rodriguez on October 24, 1947. He went to school at Lanier High School in San Antonio, TX. He married Elida Rodriguez on December 25, 1983 in San Antonio, TX. He attended San Antonio College and studied Art. He worked as an Advertising Director for Winn’s Retail Stores for over 20 years covering over 122 stores in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army, where he earned several medals, including the following: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; and the Army Civilian Service Commendation Medal.
He was an avid reader where his collection of books could fill several libraries. He loved fishing and would go anytime he could get away; his favorite fishing spot was Rockport, TX where he and his wife would go frequently. He was an extremely talented artist and had many paintings that he completed during the Vietnam War. He loved animals and had many dogs during his lifetime. He adored his only daughter, Valerie, and his only grandchild, Megan Ali, along with his devoted wife, Elida, of 42 years. His family and pets were his life. His favorite sports teams were the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Yankees, which reflected his love of baseball since he was a pitcher in his youth.
Joe Charles Rodriguez is preceded in death by his father, Joe Robert Rodriguez, his mother, Beatrice Arredondo Rodriguez, and his grandmother, Guadalupe Arredondo.
Joe Charles Rodriguez is survived by his wife, Elida Rodriguez; his daughter, Valerie Carrillo; his brothers, Roger Rodriguez and wife Joan and Andrew Rodriguez; granddaughter, Megan Ali Montoya; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and brother/sister in-laws.
Pallbearers will be: Roger Rodriguez; Andrew Rodriguez; Roland Rodriguez, Jr.; Hector Rodriguez, Jr.; Jimmy Arredondo; Ernest Arredondo; Robert Arias; and Ryan Rodriguez (alternate will be Emilio Garcia).
Visitation services will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (service will be held at 7:00pm) on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home located at 6321 Bandera Rd., San Antonio, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home. Burial services will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m., with Minister Joe Wiggins of Northeast Church of Christ, officiating.
