Joe L. Mr. Vela

Joe L. Vela, age 84 of San Antonio passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Teresa B. Vela; his father, Joe S. Vela; mother, Rebecca Molina Vela; brothers, Gilbert and Raul Vela, and sister, Diana Joy Vela.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Rodriguez and husband, Jesse, Velma Alfrido and husband, Gene, Elaine Espinoza and husband Paul, Joe L. Vela, Jr. and wife, Tanya, and Humberto Barrera and wife, Norma; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Martin Barrera and wife, Helga, Paul Barrera and wife, Vicky, and Fernando Barrera and wife, Blanca; sister-in-laws, Lydia Spencer and Carmen De Leon and husband, Mike; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was a "Proud Korean War Army Veteran and Life Time Member" of VFW Post #8936-The Westside Posts located at 3001 Guadalupe Street.

The family would like to thank Memorial Medical Nursing Center which provided care and comfort for the past 5 years and Gentiva Hospice especially Nurse Amanda, Nurse Aide Yvonne, Chaplains Susan Douglas, and D. Francis for their care and support during our fathers time in need.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
