John served 24 1/2 years in the United States Army. He saw combat during World War II. He received the Purple Heart for meritorious service and other medals and commendations. John also served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Dew, TX and was a 65 years member of Army Lodge #1105 AF & AM.
John was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and his wives, Effie Simons and Oma Lanel Hall. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Plummer-Horne Armstrong; daughter, Lanel Kally-Pugh and husband, Michael; son, John H. Armstrong, Jr. and wife, Loretta; stepdaughter, Kaye Lynn Nobles and husband, Tim; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
