

John was the son of Chester and Elsie Ashbrook and brother to Don and Mary, who preceded him in death. John was born in Santiago, Chile on January 19, 1932, where he lived for 5 years before making his home in San Antonio.
He graduated at Central Catholic and after 3 years in the military, attended the University of Texas in Austin. John was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he was active in the Thursday Morning men's bible study.
He was a long time member of Central Park Lion's Club, a 31-year member of Club 12 and North San Pedro AA Group. He marched to the beat of a different drummer and loved to greet friends and relatives at the airport wearing a dress, wig and huge sunglasses while holding a rubber chicken.
He had a joyful and wonderful sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Blanche Evenson Ashbrook; and his beloved dog, Oliver; his adopted son, Butch and wife, Linda Evenson; grandchildren, Lisa and John Howarth, Clark and Jacquie Evenson; Andra Evenson the mother of Lisa and Clark; as well as great grandchildren, Ashley and Bradley Howarth and Jacob Ashbrook Evenson; sisters-in-law, Viola Boggess and Ina Hamilton and her husband, Jim; brother-in-law, Walter Clark and his wife, Sharon; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and friend
