John Franklin Byers II, of San Antonio, passed away on Monday, May 27th, 2024, at the age of 67. An outgoing and gregarious individual, he is warmly remembered by his loved ones and will be dearly missed.
John grew up in the Marshall area of Missouri and enlisted in the Coast Guard right out of high school. During his distinguished 20 years of service, John was posted with his family across the country in states from Florida to Alaska. His time with the Coast Guard afforded him the opportunity to experience the outdoor spaces of this great country, where he engaged in hunting, fishing, and hiking. He loved his time in the Coast Guard and was very proud to have served his country for as long as he did.
Upon retiring, John had a distinguished career in the cybersecurity industry, which he worked until a few years before his passing. A man full of energy, he demonstrated a rare entrepreneurial spirit that was never phased by what life threw at him. He was always willing to pursue his vision and take professional risks to achieve his dreams. John worked in both the private and public sector, serving as the CIO for the city of San Antonio and the state of Kansas. Most notable of his personal endeavors is the cybersecurity company Nsuntec and the guitar company Gruene Guitars. The latter of which he dedicated the last several years of his life to building.
Perhaps most significantly, John is remembered as a man who had a deep love for his family. He had a profound dedication to his family and was always eager to be of help however he could. He remained the biggest champion of his loved ones to the end. He is survived by his wife Peggy, children John, Amiee, Jack, and James Byers and their mother Delia Lopez, stepchildren Nick Rigdon, Dayna Hunger, and Sean Conklin, 7 grandchildren, and two elder sisters Janice Walker and Joyce Rice of Norman, OK.
