John committed his life to the Lord, his family, and his country. He served in the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant. During his 22 plus years of service in the Air Force, he was stationed overseas many times including a combat deployment in Vietnam. When he retired from the Air Force, he continued to serve his country in the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in San Antonio,Texas for 20 years.
John was a hardworking man from the time he was a little boy. He was the oldest of 14 children. Growing up he enjoyed raising his cattle through 4-H where he won many awards. The love of his life, Doris Cain, was his pride and joy. You could not leave a conversation with him without hearing about his “little Missouri woman”. They had a happy 61 years together, raising a family, serving in the church, and traveling the world.
John was a proud deacon in the Southern Baptist Church, and loved telling everyone, especially his nurses, about Christ. He was a very generous and hospitable man. John always helped those in need and opened up his home to numerous people. Not only did John love the Lord, his family, and his country, he also loved sports. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, and San Antonio Spurs. He always made sure that his travels included going to a Cardinals baseball game. John even had the privilege of throwing the first pitch at a San Antonio Missions baseball game. John would want everyone to know that the only hope in his life was Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection that we are able to be saved from our sins.
