

John Campbell, 79 passed away peacefully at home in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday January 16, 2016 surrounded by his family. John was born in Glasgow Scotland April 5, 1936, to John and Margaret (Peggy) Campbell. He attended St Aloysius College, earned Associate Mechanical Engineering degree from Whitehill College and served for three years in the British Merchant Navy with Bank Line shipping serving his time on the Ernebank circumnavigating the globe several times.
After leaving the Merchant Navy he moved to London to work in the power industry and the burgeoning UK offshore oil and gas industry. He joined Brown and Root which took him and his family to Holland, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Mexico and finally Texas.
On leaving Brown and Root he moved to San Antonio cofounding Brae Construction and CFC Development and built successful property and construction businesses. Later he returned to the oil and gas industry in Houston and most recently was working to commercialize patented oil sands processing technology.
John was an accomplished musician, who played the piano exquisitely often entertaining family and friends with his repertoire of classical, folk, contemporary or his favorite 'Boogie Woogie' tunes. His work was his life's passion but his family was his greatest joy and legacy. John will be missed greatly as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.
John is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Frank Campbell.
John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Ellen Campbell; daughter, Jackie Brown; son, Paul Campbell; daughter, Susan Trembath; and daughter, Laura Campbell; son-in-law, Tim Brown; daughter-in-law, Ann Campbell, son-in-law, Andrew Trembath and eight grandchildren, Rebecca and her husband John, Michael and his wife Amanda, Madeline, Emma, Adam, James, Grace and David; and two great-grandchildren, Lane and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Monica; brother, Adrian; and sister Jean; and many nieces and nephews spread across the globe.
