It is with great sadness that we announce the end of the life of John Anthony Cavazos' earthly journey when he transitioned to eternal life the evening of October 21, with his family by his side. John was born in San Antonio to John H. Cavazos and Amelia G. Cavazos.
He is predeceased by his father and his sister, Rosemary C. Rodriguez.
Throughout his numerous surgeries and therapies, John stayed focused and remained positive to regain his strength with his wife by his side, keeping him on schedule. John was blessed with an energetic spirit, many talents and remarkable abilities to accomplish his goals. He approached every challenge and venture with courage, determination and strength. His quick wit and sense of humor were his assets. He retired from AT&T with more than 31 years of service. In our almost 34 years of marriage, we never had to call a plumber and very seldom an air conditioning specialist. Although he was passionate about cooking, an ardent sport spectator, and a lifelong Spurs, Houston Astros, and Dallas Cowboys fan, his priority was spending quality time with his family. His single purpose in life was to take care of his family, provide for us and keep us happy. John was an integral part of our daily lives and activities. He was very proud our grandchildren - their biggest fan - attending and cheering them at every sports game, school event, and birthday celebrations. His passing leaves an immeasurable sorrow in our lives. Memories of his life will abide with us forever.
Left to cherish and forever grateful to God for the life of the exceptional good man are his wife, Janie Vela Cavazos; daughter, Jennifer Salazar; grandchildren, Matthew Jae, Madelyn Rae Lynne, and Mallory Rayne Salazar. He is also survived by his mother, Amelia G. Cavazos; sisters, Rita and her husband, Eddie Mendiola, Kathy and her husband, Rick Gutierrez; brother-in-law, George Rodriguez, extended Vela family; and several nieces and nephews.
