

John grew up on a farm in Nursery, Texas. He played football at Victoria High School and was a walk-on at the University of Alabama under legendary coach Bear Bryant. He worked for many years in banking and finance, but nearly 30 years ago, together with his best friend, started several telecommunications businesses where he worked until his retirement in 2023. He donated his time to various charities including the Optimist Club of San Antonio, loved to travel, was fiercely loyal to his many friends and absolutely devoted to his family. He was also a prolific story teller, bending the ear of anyone who would listen to his charming stories of his family and childhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and June M. Crawford. John is survived by son, Greg Crawford and his wife Veronica; grandchildren, Garrett Crawford and his wife Victoria, Kyle Crawford, and Seth Crawford who knew him as their beloved “Papo”; sister, Margaret Green and her husband Lester Green; nephew Bryan Green and family; niece Leah Doyle and family; his cousins “The Randall Bunch” and Bert Crawford, as well as numerous cousins
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Pallbearers will be Greg Crawford, Garrett Crawford, Kyle Crawford, Seth Crawford, Stan Randall and Bryan Green. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Slaughter and Lester Green. While flowers will be appreciated, in lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation and dedicate the donation in honor of John Crawford.
