

He was born on July 4th, 1926 in Utica, NY to John and Magdelna (Hornung) Donohue.
At the end of his senior year in high school, John enlisted in the Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge he attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ graduating with a BM degree in religious music.
On September 9, 1950 he married the love of his life, Shirley Siegfried of Bethlehem, PA. Together they moved to Chickasha, OK where John assumed the duties of Minister of Music and Shirley became the organist at Epworth Methodist Church for six years.
Moving to Oklahoma City they assumed the same duties at Nichols Hills Methodist Church. They arrived in San Antonio in 1960 where they led the music program at Travis Park Methodist Church. John then moved to the position of Director of Music at St. John's Methodist Church for 20 years.
Mutual of New York Insurance Company employed John for 30 years. He was a proud member of the Million Dollar Round Table for a number of years. John's life was full of complete joy in all that he did.
He directed Beethoven Maennerchor, Chorgemeinschaft Texas, and Southern District of the North American Saengerbunde for 30 years. As the director of these choirs he traveled throughout the US and Europe.
His beautiful Irish Tenor voice endeared him to the members of the Harp and Shamrock society where he performed at many events including the yearly Memorial Service at the Alamo. He was so proud of his Irish and German Heritage.
John served on the Board of Directors for the Beethoven Maennerchor, the Bach Choir and as a fundraiser for the Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by the family he loved so much, including Shirley, his wife, of 62 years, his children, John (Marty), Bill, Jimmy (Mimi), Kathy (Kevin) Muchemore, Mark (Angel), Erin (Joe) Marshall, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. His sister Betty Draper of New York, numerous nieces and nephews and sisters & brothers in-law.
Visitation will be held Tuesday July 24, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough Avenue 78212.
