Thought of you many times over the past 13 years since I retired from the NYPD. You were my friend, mentor and my best contact in Texas to share intelligence for you to disseminate to your people. Today, I’m in San Antonio visiting our son, daughter in-law and first grand daughter and I just wished you were still here so you could meet everyone before they move to Houston. Please enjoy fishing with my Dad up in heaven and I’ll always think of you, Brother.

I am heartbroken that we have lost Rocky. He is a true legend and one-of-a-kind. Rocky and I were partners years ago and for me, were some of the best times of my career. He taught me so much about police work, about gangs, but more importantly, about friendship and trust. I have admired Rocky since the day I met him and will be forever grateful for the many things that I learned from him. Rest in peace partner.

To Rocky's family, Diana and John, I am truly sorry. My heart goes out to each of you. I am praying for strength and comfort in the days ahead.

I had the privilege of working around Rocky while at SAPD.  He was the consummate professional and contributed greatly to the investigations and operations at SAPD.

He will be missed for his “easy—going”  personality,  sense of humor and above all else, for his dedication to the profession of law enforcement as one of “San Antonio’s Finest”!

Growing up, my Mom would always tell us in Spanish to “give your hands to serve, and your hearts to love.” That’s how I’ll always remember Rocky. He was simply special. He lived his life serving others, and his spirit will live on in all of us who loved him...forever.  Our condolences to all the Dyer family.

There are too many fond memories to list over the 10+ years that my family and I have been lucky to know Rocky and the Dyers.  Having moved to SA for the military in 2010 they opened their home and  were so kind and welcoming for countless games, poker nights and bbqs. I was honored to propose to my wife in their backyard because of the special place it holds in my heart. I will cherish the years of laughs we shared and will continue to pass and share along to the next generation of our children. We love you all ❤️

I helped Rocky's son, John, coach little league baseball. Both our sons played for our team.   The league was coach pitched and when I pitched to the kids I always looked at Rocky in the stands for critique or approval of my pitches.  He would say "ball is low coach, bring it up" or "good pitch, coach".  Rocky cared.  About his family and everyone else.  

Words can never express what "Rock" meant to all of us. I feel so blessed that he had a heart large enough to  allow of us all in. For two weeks I have processed all the great times we had starting in the mid 80's without re-visiting the same moment twice.  He was my big-brother (younger); friend, mentor and  adopted family member all wrapped in one. 
My heart goes out to the family and I know there's a huge void; but trust that he paving the way for the rest of us to better place-that's the Man he is. R.I.P. - Rock.  May God Bless all who read. 


John you will truly be missed.  Your death took everyone by surprise but you left alot of great memories behind for those who knew you.   Prayers for Diane and little John and your family during this difficult time.  May you rest in peace, we love you.

I was so saddened to hear of Rocky’s passing. My sincerest condolences to Diana and the entire Dyer family. 
He was a great man who loved his family/friends/country and he was bigger than life. Rocky could remember names and events like no one I’ve ever known.  He could go from seriously funny to super serious in a moment. He was a mentor to me and numerous other officers at the Bexar County Adult Probation department. I have so many fond memories of him, some very serious work related and many funny ones, including those at TGIA meetings/conferences. He and Bob Borg were like Laurel and Hardy. 
Rocky, you my friend will never be forgotten. I will see you again, so I’ll only say “See you later buddy.”
