

He is survived and greatly missed by his daughters, Anne McKay Greeley (Nina) and Helen Greeley Recinos, his son-in-law, Gus Recinos, his grandchildren, Katherine and Alexander Recinos, his sisters, J. Sharon Greeley and Patricia Kelly, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was born in Philadelphia to a military family in 1930. In 1953, he earned a BA in History from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta. He was an officer in the United States Army from 1953 to 1974.
His military assignments included tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam, and posts in Forts Leavenworth, Lewis, Riley and Knox, as well as in Europe. He was particularly proud of serving with the 17/21st Lancers, British Army of the Rhine, in Germany in 1963-1964. His last military assignment was with USA SACLANT, in Norfolk, Virginia.
After retiring from the Army, he earned an MBA from George Washington University, and worked as a personnel manager and management consultant. In recent years, John volunteered in his community, served as a lector at the Post Chapel at Fort Sam Houston, spent time with family and friends, and pursued his lifelong interests in American history and Irish heritage and culture.
