John Thomas Griffin, Jr.

John Thomas Griffin, Jr. at the ripe old age of almost 102 years old died peacefully at 11:43 pm on St. Patrick’s Day 2024 at the All Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in San Antonio, Texas with his only child, Patricia Gail Blanchard, by his side. A lifelong resident of Texas he was the eldest born in Reisel, Texas on May 3, 1922.

Throughout the day his room was filled with well wishers; his daughter’s two children, Gilberto Garza III and Meredith Garza. Even one of his Great Grandchildren, Dustin Cody Bruce, the son of Meredith Garza, drove in from Arkansas to attend. Also one of John’s best friends, Joe Pastor, came to be with him. It was a day filled with laughter and tears, love, forgiveness and harmony. Everyone shared some of their most treasured moments with him and wished him well on his Great Journey. Prayers were sung and scriptures were read…just as he would have wanted.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wilma (Dottie) Griffin, his mother and father, John Thomas Griffin and Katie Jenkins Griffin as well as a younger brother, Jack Bartlett Griffin.

John is survived by his only child along with his only sister, Janelle Griffin Smith, who resides in South Carolina. He also leaves Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren: six Great Grandchildren and twelve Great-Great Grandchildren. His Grandson has four children: Josemaría Gilberto Garza IV; Olivia Mariel Garza; Juan Pedro Garza and Ophelia Grace Prock. His Granddaughter has two sons: Dustin Cody Bruce who is the father of Alexander Maxwell Bruce, Mary Ann Bruce, Alyssa Groves, Chloe Groves and Zander Groves. Brent David Bruce, which is Meredith Garza’s other son has three children Nevaeh Sprague, Aayden Sprague and Ariel Williams.
