John was born November 29, 1958 to John Gutierrez, Sr., and Teresa Gonzalez in San Antonio, Texas.
He worked for Bexar County as a heavy equipment operator and worked as the general caretaker of Tarpley Retreat Center for Cornerstone Church. John was also known by the church as "Big John" and by his family as "Tio Bert".
He was a man of God who loved people and loved to give of himself. John had a servant's heart.
He is survived by his daughter, Janelle Gutierrez; mother, Teresa Peterson; father, John Gutierrez, Sr.; sisters, Jeanette, Mary Alice, Diana and Pat; many nieces and nephews.
