
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen McCamish Brisbin, and his father John N. McCamish, Sr.
He is survived by his wife Louella McCamish, his daughters Joanne Stromberger, Sara McCamish, Stephanie Scott, his son William McCamish, and two grandchildren, Macy Scott and Christian Stromberger.
San Antonio was always John's home. A graduate of Alamo Heights High School, he later received his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1963 and his law degree from The University of Texas in 1966.
After graduating from law school, John served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. John later joined the law firm of Matthews, Nowlin, MacFarlane & Barrett in 1971. In 1977, John founded the law firm McCamish, Ingram, Martin & Brown. John remained a prominent fixture of the San Antonio legal community for the next 25 years.
In 1995, John was named as a Life Fellow of the San Antonio Bar Association. He was also a member of the Dean's Round Table at The University of Texas at Austin, 1981-1982 President of The University of Texas Alumni Association, and a member of the Little Field Society and a Keeton Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin.
In addition, John served on the board of directors of several corporations including Advanced Extraction Technologies, Inc., Geodyne Resources, Inc., Fidelity National Bank of Dallas and the Nix Hospital Group.
Hunting was one of John's passions, and he was a proud member of the Boone and Crockett Club. John was also a member of several San Antonio institutions including the Argyle Club, the San Antonio Country Club and the Club Giraud
