

John Robert McSween, 82 of San Antonio, Texas passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 16, 2013. A native Texan, John was born, in Kerens, Texas; the only child to Lucy and John Finley McSween. He attended Kerens High School, where he was affectionately known as "Egg-Beater", joined the National Guard and continued his education at Texas A&M in College Station where he was a part of the Corps of Cadets. Following, he attended Navarro Junior College in Corsicana and was graduated with a B.B.A. degree from North Texas State University in Denton where he was the class salutatorian. John enjoyed an amazing career that spanned 64 years. He began his corporate career with IBM and held several positions throughout Texas, where he played a vital role in the implementation of IBM's plan for Hemisfair; advancing in the industry, he came to serve as Vice President with Boothe Computer Corporation. He culminated his professional career with an exemplary 34 years of service with NCH Corporation. John was an active participant in a wide variety of local civic organizations including: the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the American Heart Association and the Rotary Club. He was also an active member of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, the YMCA Development Program and served on the Hemisfair Plaza Advisory committee. He also enjoyed the many relationships fostered while a member of Oak Hills Country Club and while serving on boards for the Marriott Corporation. John was an active member of Cornerstone Church for 35 years; most recently, traveling extensively in support of The Christians United for Israel campaign. While his life was marked by much achievement, John's most cherished role was that of husband and father. His joy was made complete as he donned the much-loved titles of grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bernice and 4 daughters: Lee Ann and husband, Rodney Magee, Erin and husband Russell Chollett, Michele and husband, Mark Walters and Melissa and husband, Jeff Patrello. John's 16 treasured grandchildren are: Lindsay, Chelsea, Brooke, Monica, Natalie, Keith, Ashley, Amy, MacKenzie, Joshua, Renee, Dylan, Madison, Boone, Tex, and John Lyndon "Dutch". He was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the wonderful, compassionate and caring staff of Odyssey Hospice, with special recognition to Ed Tello, Chaplain, Beth Licea, RN, and Mario Sevila, LVN who helped make this part of the journey tender, meaningful and inspired by God. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Vada Hagee Chapel.
