A long time resident of San Antonio, John grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and graduated from La Feria High School in 1970. He graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos formerly Southwest Texas State University, and worked as a Certified Public Accountant in San Antonio since 1975.
John is survived by his family: mother, Lorene Murphy; sisters Carolyn McCall and husband, David; Judy Bergstrom and husband, Bryan; Jeannie Wyatt and husband, Carl Faulkner; Jane Wyatt; nieces Megan Hammons, Lesley Trimble, Deborah Nordmeyer, Leigh Ann Baack, other family members and a host of friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
John is preceded in death by his father, Preston Murphy.
John will be remembered most for his unselfish care for others. No matter the need or situation, John was always ready and willing to help. His willingness to see the good in others, to care unconditionally, and to overlook imperfections were his greatest attributes. His positive and upbeat disposition was one of the things most loved by his friends and family. He made everyone laugh, was always ready with a joke, and would not want anyone to mourn his sudden departure. He spent his last day with his family in love and celebration, and for that, they are most thankful.
