'My favorite memory that serves as a tribute to the man that I am proud to call my father is the education that he instilled inside of me. Sadly, I regret that I only really got to know my father over the last few years. For those conversations I will cherish. For my stubbornness every time he had asked me to come home, I will regret. It was truly my loss! I still remember waking up as a child one morning to find that John had built book shelves at the end of our hallway, which housed encyclopedias. That was truly the man that he was. John had wanted, my brother and I to have a chance at our future through the knowledge of books. From the time I was a very little girl John encouraged me to get my education no matter what. He wanted me to have the knowledge to be an independent woman beyond the bounds of my generation and our society. I will always remember my last conversation with him just before he left us. I called home and was quite upset that I was being told as a woman I had to wear stockings and a skirt in court. I asked, ?John why can?t I get away with wearing French cuffs?? His last words to me as a father was, ?Kim you did not work as hard as you have as a woman to get your legal education and to be judged by your gender. Be judged in court for your intellect. Kiddo if anyone can pull it off you can.? What powerful words that my father left me with as a woman in a profession who struggle?s everyday to measure up! John you will continue to live on inside of me forever. Every time I step into a courtroom that is my tribute to you. A woman measured by my intellect now wearing your French cuffs. Thank you! 'i have never forgotten the impact tippy had on me and all of the boys back in the 70's. Just a few days ago as i am coaching my high school varsity team, something came up and i thought back to how tippy had gone over the situation. many times over the years this has happened. i was deeply saddened by his passing and his spirit certainly will continue within me and all the kids i teach and coach.'

'I have never in my life met such a kind,vibrat, caring and personable person. I met him though Lynn Booker his accountant about ten years ago. I have worked as Lynn's personal assistant for the past 16 yrs. Lynn and I have been friends since out of college in 1970. When John came into the office under many medical circumstances he always tried to be himself; and after having to sit sometimes to wait to see Lynn, he would tell me stories from his life, and I would chip in with the news of my children and grandbabies...he just missed our 7th little girl born last week. Mary, he spoke of you always. The last time I really had a chance to visit with him on the phone, he told me that you had lost 40lbs. and was encourageing you to buy some new clothes as well...how he loved you!
