John Anthony was born in San Antonio, TX March 23, 1949 and passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023. Johnny was raised on the west side of San Antonio and graduated from Fox Tech High School. After high school, he proudly served in the Army, during the Vietnam War (1968-1972) as a Military Police Officer (K-9 Handler).
After his service to our country, Johnny joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1972. One of his early assignments as a Police Officer was being an instrumental part of a Task Force, which resulted in one of SAPD's largest drug related roundups. He spent his career patrolling all over San Antonio and worked for over a decade as a Field Training Officer. He concluded his career in policework assigned to the Central S.A.F.F.E. Unit, where he was immensely involved in community programs and projects. He retired in 2003 after serving over 31 years.
After retirement, he became extensively involved with the VFW Post 76. Team He served as Post Commander, held various positions, and volunteered on countless Veteran Committees. He was very dedicated to his elected post and strived to serve his position with dignity and honor.
Johnny will always be remembered for his dedication and generosity to his family and friends. He was a strong man with a loving heart. He will be eternally missed.
Johnny is survived by two sons, Steve (Lourdes), Johnny, a daughter (Pamela), a spouse (Rachel), three sisters Teresa (Greg), Dolores (Rudy), Patricia, and a brother, Albert (Ivette). After his sister Diana's death, he was blessed with a third son, Sam (Melanie). He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Anita, his brothers Pedro, Jesse, Richard, and Serapio, his sister Diana, and his great granddaughter, Amelia.
A visitation for Johnny will be on November 19, 2023 12:00pm-4:00pm at Sunset North Funeral Home (910 North Loop 1604 E. 78232). Military Honors will be presented at 3:00pm. Procession will depart at 4:00pm to the VFW Post 76 (10th St., 78215). A reception will be held at the VFW from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
