

John (Jack) William O'Shea, M.D., age 77. Beloved husband of 52 years to Maureen (nee O'Connor), father, and physician died July 12, 2009, after succumbing to Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Blue Island, Illinois on September 1, 1931, to Ada S. Wilhelmi and Dr. John W. O'Shea.Jack graduated from Chicago's De La Salle Institute. He continued his education at Loyola University for undergraduate studies and graduated from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1956. He proudly served as a USAF Captain and pediatrician in Lincoln, NE. He resumed his service as a Lt. Colonel in the USAF Reserve, where he worked as a physician at Wilford Hall. Jack was board certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology. In 1967, he and Maureen moved their seven children from Joliet, IL to San Antonio where he practiced medicine for over 30 years. Early in his practice, he began volunteering his days off to care for children at a free allergy clinic at Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. As a devout Catholic and daily communicant, he was a strong advocate for pro-life causes. Jack was a talented musician and in high school started his own jazz band, "The Johnny Williams." He continued playing his trombone and singing with his band as a way to support himself through medical school. His love of music carried over to singing in church choirs for most of his life. Jack was an avid sports fan particularly of the Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. Cherished uncle of Ann O'Connor, Siobhan (Dr. William) Hartsell, Susan (Russ) Chadwick, Kathy (Pete) Badovinac, Jim O'Connor, Ed (Maryann) O'Connor. The family is grateful for the compassionate care given by family friend Dr. Ray Harle and UTHSCSA physicians, Dr. Liliana Oakes, Dr. Robert Parker, Dr. David Espino and Dr. Margaret Rosina Finley. Nurses and caregivers including: Amelia, Anna, Bobby, Eva, Fred, Geraldine, Jackie, Joe, Monica, Nancy, Rosemary, Sharrell, Vickie and the staff at VistaCare Hospice.
