John Paul Richardson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world on August 19, 2024, at the age of 74, after a brave battle with COVID Pneumonia. John was born on November 16, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, where he would also peacefully pass away. John's life was a testament to the values of love, dedication, and humor that he held dear.
John was a proud Army veteran. He studied business at the University of Texas and later channeled his knowledge and leadership skills into a successful career. For over 40 years, John was at the helm of Matera Paper Company, managing the business with a rare combination of astuteness and compassion.
John's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his dedication to his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jerry Richardson, with whom he shared the kind of love that novels are written about. Together, they built a family and a legacy that will continue to thrive.
John's legacy is carried on by his son, Justin Richardson, daughter-in-law Janet Richardson, and their children Payton, Presley, Jordyn, and Colt, who will miss their grandpa's larger-than-life presence. His daughter, Jill Folkert, son-in-law Jeff Folkert, and their children Jacob, Lucas, and Zoe, will remember him as the grandfather who taught them the value of loyalty, laughter, and love.
John is also survived by his loving siblings, Linda Tietze, Ann Lerner, Mike Richardson, and Lanie Gill, who will hold dear the memories of their brother. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Edward Richardson and Jean Hutzler, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.
An outdoor enthusiast, John's passion for hunting and fishing was well-known among his friends and family. He was affectionately called "Big John” or “JR" by his closest friends. His eyes would light up when he spoke of his adventures in nature, and he found great joy in sharing this passion with his grandchildren, passing on his knowledge and respect for the outdoors to the next generation.
Selfless, loving, and funny are the words that best describe John. He was the kind of man who would offer help before it was asked for, the kind of man who loved unconditionally, and the one who could always be counted on to deliver a perfectly timed joke. His sense of humor was a gift that he generously shared, ensuring that laughter was a constant in the lives of those around him.
As we say goodbye to John Paul Richardson, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. He was a man who made a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. His was a life well-lived, and though he will be greatly missed, his memory will be cherished forever.
