

John Rivera aged 67, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026 in his home in San Antonio, Texas. John was born in New York, New York and raised by his mother and father in Yorktown Heights with his four siblings. John was an artist at heart. His passions included music, (particularly Jazz and Salsa), dancing, acting, audio/visual and drawing. Even with all these talents John chose to bravely enlist and serve in the US Armed Forces, like his father and uncles before him. While stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, John was invited to play the congas at the USO club, where he met his wife Gloria. They were married in August of 1980 and have been for 45 years. They lived together in New York for nearly ten years, but settled in San Antonio, Texas where they raised their six beautiful children. While John had a big family, he cherished his close relationship with his cousin David Rivera.
John is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Anna Rivera, brothers Henry and James Rivera and his beloved uncle George Rivera.
John is survived by his wife Gloria and their children Enrique, Juan, Rolando (Emilia), Jose, Jorge, and Zoe Rivera. Their grandchildren Haven, Lyric, MJ, Oliva and their mother Regina; Matteo and his mother Jessica; Humberto, Noah, Alora, Arthur, Benjamin and their mother Emilia Rivera; Ezekiel and his mother Gabrielle; Santana and his mother Nayali; Dean, Donna and their mother Lorian; Federico and his mother Zoe Rivera.
John is also survived by his sisters Marcia Thomas, Rita (Michael) Chaussy and beloved cousin David Rivera.
There will be a Visitation at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237 on June 7, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. On June 8, 2026, our doors will open at 8:30 am with a Chapel Service at 10:00 am followed by an 11:30 am Committal Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
