John Anthony Rodriguez

John Rodriguez, 75, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 15, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by love, friendship, quiet strength, and a sense of humor that those who knew him will not forget.

John was born on January 8, 1951, in Flint, Michigan, to Dolores and Juan Rodriguez. As a boy, he was his older sister’s partner in crime, a trusted confidant and sounding board to his younger sister, and shared an unspoken bond of mutual respect with his brother. His role as both mischievous sidekick and trusted confidant reflected the deep connection he shared with his family.

In April 1979, John married Beatrice Ledesma, beginning a marriage that would span 47 years. He was a good husband and a wonderful father whose patience, generosity, and steady presence became part of the foundation of his family. He listened without judgment, gave us the space to be heard, and then offered his own unique perspective—a blend of logic and empathy.

He built a long and fulfilling career in television at Univision KWEX 41, where the friendships and fun mattered most. Those friendships carried well into his retirement, often over a cup of coffee or a midafternoon lunch.

Away from work, he enjoyed the things that allowed him to slow down and appreciate life. Whether behind a camera, on a camping trip, watching a Houston Astros ballgame, playing a round of golf, or simply sitting across the table from someone he cared about, John understood the value of being present.

John possessed a wonderfully quick wit and was known for delivering memorable one-liners, but there was also a calmness and solidity about him. When John had something to say, people listened. And when the moment called for it, he could bring a conversation to a halt with laughter.

His greatest legacy can be found in the lessons he leaves behind: that strength does not have to be loud; that kindness and patience are virtues worth practicing; that friendship deserves tending; and that there is almost always room for a well-timed joke.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Beatrice Ledesma Rodriguez; his children, John Rodriguez and Marisa Rodriguez; Jonathan Capps; his grandchildren, Neal Capps and Isabel Rodriguez-Capps; his sisters, Lorenda Nerison and her husband, Denton, and Sandra Guerra and her husband, Ruben; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family members, friends, former colleagues, neighbors, and others whose lives were touched by his friendship.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Dolores Rodriguez, and his brother, Ernesto R. Rodriguez.

A visitation, Rosary, and Funeral Mass honoring John’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.

A life does not have to be loud to leave an echo. John’s will be heard in our family for many years.
