He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in World War II in the South Pacific. After the war he served for 22 years in the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Magdelina Capulli; his daughters, Michelle Beatrice Henderson and Joanne Elizabeth Timbes.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Shield; his daughter, Sandra Jean Miller (Bill); his daughter, Karen Lynn Hanley; his daughter, Tommie Renee Sinclair (Allen); his step-son, Ronnie Bruce Riley (Janet); his step-daughter, Lisa Gail Hudson; his step-daughter, Tammie Rae Murch (Chauncey); 18 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
