John Rudolf Solis Batllia was born on October 21, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. From a young age, John displayed an uncommon combination of curiosity, ambition, determination, and generosity that would define his life and career.
His ambition was unmatched, revealed early when, at just three years old, he began shining shoes and dancing along the streets of downtown San Antonio for tips. Growing up with five siblings in a neighborhood marked by hardship, he learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and resourcefulness long before most children ever consider such things.
Despite the challenges of poverty, John graduated from Fox Tech High School, setting his sights on a brighter future through education and discipline. He went on to complete his Associate degree at San Antonio College and graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of General Studies. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished career in real estate development and resort construction.
Over the decades, John held leadership roles with respected organizations in the field of resort and real estate development. He served as Project Engineer at HCB Contractors, Manager of Construction at Motley & Associates, Vice President at Soro Construction Control, Director of Tenant Improvements at Koll Construction, and Vice President of Development and Construction at Koll Resorts International. Ultimately, he became President of Koll International, where he led the development and construction of two world-renowned golf and resort communities—Palmilla and Cabo del Sol—setting a new standard for luxury and design in Los Cabos.
In later years, John made his home in San José del Cabo, Mexico, where he founded Real Estate Development Services S. de R.L. de C.V. He specialized in consulting for the creation of master-planned resort communities and golf complexes, leaving a lasting mark on projects throughout Mexico.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was known for his warm spirit, integrity, and generosity. He had a passion for history, a love of the outdoors, and a talent for mentoring others. To all who knew him, John was a source of wisdom, encouragement, and strength.
His life was a testament to the power of hard work, vision, and compassion. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered. John Rudolf Solis is survived by his sons: John R. Solis (Alexandra) and Nikolas Solis; his five siblings: Marie Ester Valero, Carlos Ramon Rodriguez, Maria Del Rosario Foust (Steve), Marietta Jean Hill, Rosalinda Diaz; Grandchildren: Cassia Elena Solis and John Anthony Solis and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78212. There will be a procession following the service to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for a committal service starting at 2:15 p.m.
