Born on September 15, 1943, in Peoria, IL, John's life was one marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit of generosity.
John grew up in Morton, IL, where he attended Morton High School before furthering his education at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. There, he demonstrated his early brilliance, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and later an MBA in Business Administration. His academic achievements laid a strong foundation for his future career.
John dedicated his expertise and energy to E.I. DuPont in Wilmington, DE, where he was known for his intelligence and problem-solving skills. His commitment to his work was evident to all who knew him. John retired from E.I. DuPont after 26 successful years. His passion for his profession led him to continue his career at Coltec Industries in Houston, TX, where he made significant contributions until his final retirement in 1998.
John was lovingly supported throughout his life by his wife, Shirley Strunk, who survived him. He was the proud son of the late Arnold and Madeline Strunk and was preceded in death by his older brother, Gary (Linnie) Strunk and sister-in-law Candace Strunk. John's legacy is also carried on by his younger brother, Dan (Sue) Strunk, and his three daughters, Kelley (Troy), Tracy (Sean), and Jennifer (Donny), who will forever cherish the memories of their father's selfless love and guidance. His six grandchildren, Tristan, Jadeyn, Camdeyn, Clayton, Lily, and Madelyn, will miss their grandfather's warmth and the wisdom he imparted during their cherished moments together.
He was deeply loved and cherished by his wife, Shirley, with whom he shared a remarkable 56 years of marriage. Their anniversary, always a highlight each October, was a celebration of their enduring love and devotion. Shirley and John built a life together filled with joy, compassion, and mutual support, creating a legacy of love that will forever be remembered. After John suffered a stroke in 1998, Shirley devoted herself to his care with unwavering dedication and tenderness, embodying the depth of their bond. As she mourns the loss of her beloved partner, she finds solace in the countless memories they created and the profound impact he had on those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John's interests and hobbies were as diverse as his talents. He was an ardent basketball fan, with a particular devotion to the San Antonio Spurs. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious and often brought his family and friends together for lively viewing parties. Music was another of John's passions. He enjoyed playing the guitar and had a deep appreciation for country music, often serenading his loved ones with heartfelt renditions of their favorite songs.
Described by those who knew him as loving, selfless, and intelligent, John's character was the epitome of kindness. He approached every situation with a gentle heart and a mind towards helping others.
