John entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and served continuously until retirement in 1983. He was married to the late Elizabeth Spiher Travas on December 21, 1955. They were happily married for 57 years.
John is survived by his three children, daughter Leigh Travas George and husband John, son COL Todd J. Travas, U.S. Army (Ret) and wife Kathleen, daughter Lesley Travas Lawler and husband Fred; five grandchildren, Laurie, Michelle, Jennifer, Amy, and Nicole; brother Richard Travas and wife Sandra; and sister-in-law Barbara Spiher.
A private graveside service with full military honors will be held for the family at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
