He was born in Duncan, Oklahoma. A loving husband, dad and granddad, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Philosophy. John retired from USAA as a Claims Examiner. He was an avid motorcyclist and served as an instructor for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Vanlandingham; parents, J. L. and Ruth Vanlandingham; daughter, Lara Ruth Thedford and husband, Randal; son, Samuel Jason Vanlandingham and wife, Amanda; son, Zachary Thomas Vanlandingham; three grandchildren, James, Paxton and Christopher Thedford; two brothers, Larry and Steve Vanlandingham; two nieces; and his father- and mother-in-law, W. H. and Dorotha Folks.
