

John Stephen Yeglic, Sr., age 87, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 23, 2013, following a short illness. Born December 21, 1925, in Adamson, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Rudolf Yeglic and Frances (Kostrevc) Yeglic.
John served his country during WWII in the Navy in the Asiatic Pacific campaign. After discharge, John began his career with the Civil Service at Kelly AFB where he worked in various management positions over the next 39 years. In 1968 while serving as Chief of the Maintenance Ground Equipment Section, Directorate of Material Management, John received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the highest Air Force command award to a civilian employee. This accomplishment was repeated in 1976 while serving as Chief, Operations Branch, Aeronautical and Accessories Division, San Antonio Air Logistics Center.
John loved the outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, interests he shared with his children and grandchildren. He loved football and baseball and spent countless hours supporting his children at various sporting events beginning with Little League all the way through college baseball games.
John was an active founding member of Hope Lutheran Church, serving as a past congregation president as well as the Sunday School Superintendent.
John was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, attaining the degree of Master Mason. He belonged to Charles Anderson Lodge #1413 AF&AM and served as its past Master and was appointed to the position of District Deputy Grand Master District 39B, Grand Lodge of Texas. John also was an active member of the Scottish Rite Temple and the Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, belonging to Bexar Chapter.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Cleola Yeglic; daughters, Yvonne Romans and Cindy Simar & husband, Paul; daughter-in-law, Bridget Yeglic; grandchildren, Elizabeth Philips, Courtney Ochoa, Jessica Worrel, Jennifer Simar, Scott Yeglic, John Yeglic III, Troy Yeglic, Trent Yeglic, and Brittany Jedrziewski; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John (Steve) Yeglic, Jr., son-in-law, Mason Romans; sister Josephine Dzierzanowski; and brothers, Frank Simc, Leo Yeglic, and Eddie Yeglic.
Friends may visit the family on Sunday, January 27th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 9:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William Swantner officiating. Pallbearers will be Troy & Trent Yeglic, David Worrel, John Ochoa III, Don Philips, John III & Scott Yeglic, and James Jedrziewski. Interment will follow with military honors and Masonic services at Sunset Memorial Park.
