Johnny graduated from Henderson State University in 1975 and entered the Army in January 1976 as a Medical Service Corps Officer. He attended flight school at Fort Rucker Alabama and became a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) Pilot and began his lifelong association with the DUSTOFF community. During his 30 years of military service, he was assigned to multiple duty locations within the United States and Germany.
He survived by his wife Susan, sons John, Mike, Alan (Emily) and Jason (Emily), grandchildren Madison, Hannah, Samuel, Abigail, Alyssa and Aiden, as well as sisters Mamie Seamans, Sissy Jackson (Mike), and brother Warren (Marcie). He was preceded in death by his parents.
In retirement Johnny combined his love of golf (and golf buddies) and travel with annual trips to Myrtle Beach, multiple trips to Scotland, heading west to Oregon (Brandon Dunes) and everywhere in-between. If Susan planned a trip, he said, “tell me where and when” and off they went. He loved road trips to visit family and see the US.
He served the DUSTOFF Association with countless hours, in multiple roles, and was always willing to help. On May 1, 2025, Johnny was inducted into the DUSTOFF Hall of Fame.
