Jon Gary Elia

Jon Elia, 63 Passed away on Friday February 20, 2015 at SAMMC after battling a brief illness. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years Debra Elia; daughter Lindsay Wood spouse Bryan Wood; son Jon Elia II spouse Holly Elia; Grandchildren Travis, Dylon, Cheyenne, Chase, Makynzie; Step parents Marjorie and Chester Holsapple, Bette Elia; Brothers Terry and Mark Elia. He was born on May 28, 1951 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Lois and John H Elia. Jon served over 20 years in the U.S. Army where he received numerous awards and decorations to include the Legion of Merit. After retirement he worked for Star Foods and HEB. He then pursued many avenues of enjoyment. He was a member of NPSOT and the Master Gardeners Program as well as many other organizations living life to the fullest. Jon had an incredible passion for life and teaching others. He touched so many hearts in so many ways. He will truly be missed by all. Viewing will be held Tuesday March 3, 2015 from 6-8pm at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Highway with funeral services on Wednesday March 4, 2015 at Noon at Sunset then Burial at Fort Sam Houston at 1:30pm. www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com
