

Jon Jeffrey McLinden, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, due to a heart condition. Jon was born in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Jack and Betty McLinden. Jon graduated from Alamo Heights High School and St. Mary’s University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Jon’s business career began with Frost Bank where he helped develop the Young Leaders Club. This experience lead Jon into future business endeavors. Jon’s interests were hunting, restoring vintage airplanes and flying. Jon also designed and built replica armament for aircraft from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Jon became known as “The Rocket Man”. Jon served in the Air National Guard for six years from 1967 – 1973. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and his brother; Jim. Jon is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; Sarah, nieces; Kelley and Shelley, and sister in law; Kathy. Jon would often bring cookies to the students at Sunshine Cottage for holidays and special occasions. The students fondly called Mr. McLinden “The Cookie Man” which delighted Jon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jon’s memory to Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children at 603 E. Hildebrand, San Antonio, Texas or a charity of your choice.
