Jonathan came into this world with a smile on his face and from that point on he would make friends with just about everyone he would meet. He was born and raised in Alamo Heights where he made lifelong friends with all those around him. Jonathan played football through high school for the Alamo Heights Mules, and spent many summers as a water ski instructor at Lake McQueeney. He went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where he earned a dual degree in real estate and finance. At Ole Miss, once again, Jonathan made fast friends. After graduating Jonathan returned to his hometown and began building a successful career as a real estate appraiser, going on to become a commercial and ranch appraiser for Valbridge.
Jonathan had a passion for travel, golf, hunting, and Ole Miss football. He had a gift for making all those around him feel welcome and at ease. Anytime his family members came across someone that knew Jonathan the response was invariably something along the lines of “Jonathan is just the nicest guy ever”. And he really was. Friends were always greeted with that same wide irresistible grin and a “hey buddy buddy”.
Jonathan married Katie, the love of his life, in October 2020 at an intimate family wedding in San Antonio. The couple shared a love of travel and a true zest for life. Together they remodeled a beautiful home and built so many treasured memories during trips to Mexico, trying new restaurants together, and quiet weekends at the family’s south Texas ranch.
Jonathan was a loving and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle, godfather, cousin, and friend. He was a friend to all, an enemy to none, and will be loved always.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Katie Peters Spalten; parents, Gretchen, and Dr. Thomas Alan Spalten; brother, Alan Spalten and his wife, Lauren; sister, Analise Pfullmann and her husband, Carl; nieces and nephews, Valyn and Sterling Pfullmann, Clara, Henry, and Natalie Spalten; step grandmother, Sharron Buschman; mother and father-in-law, Linda and Mark Peters; sister-in-law, Gracie Peters; goddaughter Caroline Annie Etlinger; and godson, Robert Anthony Hicks.
