Jorge Sanchez, 61, peacefully met his Lord and Savior at 8:24 pm on June 7, 2023, surrounded by his wife of 39 years, four children, and his beloved sister Gloria.Born on August 23, 1961, in San Antonio, TX, Jorge was the 8th of nine children to parents Encarnacion and Beatrice G. Sanchez. Both of whom were among some of the earliest members of the church La Luz Del Mundo San Antonio, TX in 1966. There, they nurtured him in the teachings of the church and instilled a devotion to the Lord at a young age.An independent young man searching for real-life experience, he dropped out of high school and found work to help his family. As a teenager during the spring of 1982, Jorge met the love of his life Ruby Mendoza while competing in a co-ed volleyball tournament at Gilbert Garza Recreation Center. During trips to Corpus Christi, their friendship blossomed into love. Jorge was ready for the next chapter and married Ruby. He designated the Stevie Wonder song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” as their song. Jorge's love for Ruby–or “Babe” as he fondly called her –was so profound he introduced her to church, of which he remained a fervent member through his last days.On March 8, 1985, Jorge and Ruby welcomed their firstborn Darlene “Darla” Sanchez. Three more would follow: the eldest son George “Georgie” Sanchez, daughter Gina Sanchez, and the youngest Noe Sanchez. He loved his children unconditionally. Even when little Georgie was recking havoc throughout the house or Gina would disappear under a pile of dirty laundry, Jorge looked back at those memories and would recount them with laughter.Blessed with an entrepreneurial and headstrong spirit, Jorge found success in 1996 alongside his brothers Mario and Felix, when they co-founded Premier Antique Stucco–a family-owned business specializing in exterior renovations and custom stucco work. He loved his profession and continued it until he became ill at the end of 2022.Jorge was a devoted and faithful member of La Luz del Mundo. The Church and faith shaped his core values, and he found joy and purpose in giving back to his spiritual family. Jorge assisted and guided the exterior renovations for various La Luz Del Mundo temples and buildings throughout Texas; San Antonio, Houston, Luling, Seguin as well as a temple in Honduras. Jorge found great joy in that his experience and knowledge in construction could be useful in the assembly of multiple La Luz Del Mundo projects. For several consecutive years, he and Ruby led a food vendor booth at San Antonio’s Fiesta celebration, where Jorge would spend numerous days preparing and cooking the food for several hundred attendees. Additionally, he helped in various BBQ fundraisers for which all proceeds were donated to La Luz Del Mundo. As the family BBQ pit master, loved ones would find Jorge standing beside the grill at family gatherings, birthdays, and celebrations. An authentic family man, he especially loved fishing in Port Aransas during family vacations surrounded by grandchildren and teaching them how to fish – be it from the dock or on a bay fishing boat, catching a sheepshead or bull redfish, sometimes for a meal and sometimes for release. A San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboy fan, Jorge enjoyed watching sports matches with his family and friends. Not to mention he also played basketball throughout his youth and adulthood.Jorge was a helper and a philanthropist. Family and friends trusted him to mend a broken fence or fix a leaky shower head. He consistently looked out for individuals less fortunate, offering jobs and steady income to those from unprivileged backgrounds, giving cash to people in need on the street, and assisting stranded strangers with car troubles on the side of the road. He accepted people for who they were and treated outsiders with a warm and welcoming reception.Jorge spent the past 7 months in several medical facilities and throughout his stay, his faith and devotion to God never wavered. Despite doctors counting him out, he proved to them that prayers were more powerful, and that God alone always has the final say.He is loved and survived by his wife of 39 years Ruby Sanchez; children Darlene (Anahel) Sanchez, George (Eva) Sanchez, Gina (Jaziel) Robles, and Noe Sanchez; siblings Maria Isabel Orozco, Mario Sanchez, Gloria Garcia, Oscar Sanchez, and Beatrice Sanchez; and grandchildren Eli, Isaias, Jared, Ean, Ismael, and in his last months, Jorge met his youngest granddaughter, four-month-old Eliana. He also had numerous nieces and nephews that loved him very much.He was preceded in death by his parents, Encarnacion and Beatriz G. Sanchez; his siblings, Felix Castro II, Pete Sanchez, and Yolanda Coronado.
