Jorge Luis Valdez

September 22, 1945 - March 16, 2022

Jorge Luis Valdez, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Armando and Esther Valdez Vazquez. Jorge emigrated in 1964 and was very proud of his Mexican heritage.

He was the class valedictorian at Instituto America de Estudios Superiores de Nuevo Laredo. Jorge received his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering at Texas A&M University in 1968 and completed two years of engineering graduate school at the University of Texas. He was an engineer at Southwestern Bell for 26 years and co-owner of the Sunset Mexican Restaurants in San Antonio for many years and owner of Gateway Dry Cleaners in Laredo. Jorge was active as a lector and member of the choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church downtown. He was also a fitness enthusiast and enjoyed playing tennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Armando, Jr. and Sergio. Jorge is survived by his beloved sons: Jorge Valdez II and wife, Marcia (Bianchi) of West Hartford, CT, Daniel Valdez of Bronx, NY, and William Valdez of San Antonio, TX and their mother, Carmen Valdez (Cuellar). He is also survived by his three grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Maddy, Julia, and Avery Valdez; and his siblings: Cristina Trevino, Ernesto Valdez, Jesus Valdez, Rosalinda Faz, Roberto Valdez, and Mario Valdez; and a very large extended family including many nieces and nephews.
