

Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Hernandez worked in various jobs, most notably at Reus Café, where he rose to the position of chef. He later secured a position at Augie Packing Co., where he served for many years in the labor union, holding positions as president and chief steward.
Jose, also known as Jr. or Pepe, was a talented musician. He played the guitar, drums, harmonica, and he also sang. His musical journey spanned several genres—he performed Mariachi music as a guitarist, played in the rock group The J Rockers alongside his brother, and later formed Los Alegres del Alamo and Los Profesionales, focusing on Norteño/Tejano music. Later in life, he dedicated his musical talents exclusively to the Catholic Church and his faith. He performed at retreats, Cursillos, and was a devoted member of the St. Henry’s Church Choir.
Jose was passionate about his music, family, friendships, and Catholic faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Eloisa A. Hernandez. He is survived by his children: Guadalupe Hernandez, Juanita (Cresencio) Riojas, Jose T. Hernandez, and Juan Hernandez; his sister: Raquel (Santiago) Lopez; his brother: Henry (Patricia) Hernandez; as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 617 S. Santa Rosa Ave., San Antonio, TX 78204. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd., San Antonio, TX 78237, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
